54th Regiment Robert Gould Shaw Memorial

Meet here at 1 pm for the Black Heritage Trail tour of Beacon Hill. The 54th monument (est. 1883-1897) was designed by nineteenth-century sculptor Augustus S. Gardens to commemorate the first all-African American regiment recruited in the north, to fight for the Union Army during the Civil War.

On the left side ledge bordering the monument, droves of hop on hop trolley tour bus clients climb up, sit down and pose for pictures.
